Candidate qualifying is next week

Qualifying times for candidates seeking elected offices in the November 5, 2013 general election are set to begin next Monday, August 26, at 8:30 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30.

A special election will be held in Bainbridge, the same date as the general election, to fill the unexpired term of City Councilman, District B, post 6, vacated by the resignation of K. Dean Burke.

Other Bainbridge offices with expired terms and open for election are that of Mayor, currently held by Edward Reynolds; Council at large Post 1, currently held by Glennie Bench; Council Post 2, Dist. A, currently held by Joe Sweet; and Council Post 3, Dist. B, now held by Phil Long.

Qualifying fees for these seats are $171 for the position of mayor, and $90 for council seats.

The Town of Brinson has two open city council seats. Post 2 is currently held by Stanley Harrell and Post 4 by Allen Sims. Qualifying fee for each is $43.20.

Climax has three openings: that of Mayor, currently held by Charles Hadsock, and two city council seats, currently held by Gwen Wingate and Robert (Bob) Thomas. Qualifying fee for the mayor position is $20, while for city council it is $18.

All qualifying fees for all municipalities are to be paid to the Decatur County Board of Elections.

Early voting for the November general election will begin on Monday, Oct. 14 at the Decatur County Fairgrounds, 1211 Vada Road, Bainbridge.
