Joseph J. Rumph, 51, of Athens, Ga., passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens.

The funeral service was held Friday, July 26, at Sutton Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Hoyt and Pastor Jeff Stapleton officiating. Interment followed at Sutton Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Rumph was born Dec. 17, 1961, in Decatur County. He was a forklift operator for Ft. Gillem and was a member of First Christian Church. Mr. Rumph enjoyed collectibles and acquiring antiques.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Rumph; his brother, Robert L. Rumph, Jr.; and his sister, Martha Smith.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Brock Deese of Athens; his brother, Jonathan P. Rumph of St. Augustine, Fla.; and his sisters, Mary Ellen Reynolds of Monroe, Ga., and Angela K. Rumph of Bainbridge.

Ivey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
