Elizabeth T. Gibson, 89, of Bainbridge, passed away June 4, 2013 at Memorial Manor Nursing Home.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Gerald A. Little officiating. Interment will follow at Oak City Cemetery with Johnny Grimsley, John Powell, Bud Holleman, Bill Allen, Gerard Kwilecki, Jim Warren, Tom Conger, David Murphy, and Paul Murphy serving as active pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church prior to the funeral service. Memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 7067, Bainbridge, GA 39818.

Mrs. Gibson was born July 13, 1923 in LaGrange, Ga., the daughter of John Augustus Teaver and Theodosia Lamar Parker Teaver. She was a 1941 graduate of LaGrange High School and received her Registered Nurse degree from Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing in Atlanta. She worked on the staff of Piedmont Hospital in the labor/delivery room. It was in the lunchroom of the hospital where she met Frank L. Gibson, M.D. They were married in 1946 and lived in Atlanta, Savannah, Norfolk, Va., and Jacksonville, N.C. before making their home in Bainbridge. Mrs. Gibson was a member of First Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years and actively participated in Sunday worship and the Ward Bible Sunday School class. In addition to her service to the Lord, Mrs. Gibson’s interests included sewing, gardening, cooking, and traveling. She also assisted leading her children’s Girl Scout and Cub Scout troops. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother.

The family would like to thank the staff of Memorial Hospital and Manor for their care and the friends who visited and provided support during the past four years. A special thanks is extended to Carol Pearson, Ethel King, Pat Peters, Nancy Miller, and Gertrude Moore, the exceptional five friends who sat with her and provided meaningful conversation, love, and care.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Dr. Frank L. Gibson; and her siblings, Dorsey Teaver, Frances T. Hopkins, Virginia T. Fincher, and Edward Teaver

Survivors include her children, Kathrine Schnabel and her husband, Thomas, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Elizabeth Murphy and her husband, Charles, of Bainbridge, and Frank L. Gibson, Jr. of Panama City, Fla.; her brother Paul Teaver of LaGrange; her sisters Louise T. Robertson of LaGrange, and Alice T. Downer of Richland, Ga. and her grandsons David L. Murphy of Toluca, Mexico and Dr. Paul G. Murphy and his wife, Leslie, of Memphis, Tenn. .
