Bridges to compete at Miss Georgia

Decatur County native, Maggie Bridges, will be one of 40 contestants competing for the title of Miss Georgia in Columbus on June 19-22, 2013 at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts in Columbus, Georgia. The twenty-year-old native of Brinson, was crowned Miss Cobb County 2013, in August. If selected as Miss Georgia, she will advance to the national pageant with a chance of claiming the title of Miss America in September in Atlantic City.

A 2011 graduate of Southwest Georgia Academy, Maggie is the daughter of John and Cathy Bridges of Brinson, and the granddaughter of Dr. & Mrs. Glenn Brown of Bainbridge, Mr. & Mrs. John Bridges of Brinson, and Ms. Martha Brown of Donalsonville. She plans to major in biochemistry at the Georgia Institute of Technology where she has successfully balanced life as a full-time student, part-time employment, and has the added role of preparing for the upcoming competition.

She is the vice president of Collegiate Panhellenic Council, has served as the Public Relations Chair for Alpha Delta Pi sorority, a Georgia Tech tour guide, a member of the Kids @ Kollege committee, and a member of FASET, a student-led orientation team for new students. She also volunteers at Buckhead Church with their children’s ministry and has enjoyed volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House. As Miss Cobb County, she has made many appearances, entertaining, promoting her platform, “Impacting the Lives of Others Through Volunteerism,” and preparing herself physically and mentally for the competition.

Her interview with the distinguished panel of five judges will occur on the morning of Tuesday, June 18, and will begin the first phase of the competition. The on-stage portion will begin on Wednesday evening, June 19, with her talent, a vocal arrangement of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” from the musical, “Carousel.” On Thursday evening she will compete in evening gown and on-stage question, and on Friday, she will compete in lifestyle and fitness. Saturday night the top ten contestants will be announced and will compete in all phases of on-stage competition again.

Miss Georgia will begin making appearances at a press conference on Sunday, June 23rd and will continue in this full-time role while preparing for the Miss America Competition.  For more information about the week-long activities or events scheduled, please visit www.missga.org.
