James E. “Jim” Turknett, 74, of Thomasville, Ga., passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla.
The funeral service was held Friday, May 3, 2013, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim VanLandingham officiating, and concluded at the chapel. Interment was at Oak City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lewis Hall Singletary Oncology Center at Archbold Memorial Hospital, 919 Broad St., Thomasville, GA 31792.
Mr. Turknett was born March 17, 1939, in Bainbridge, the son of Lester Forest Turknett and Bessie Ruth James Turknett. He was a graduate of West Bainbridge High School, Class of 1957, and a graduate of Valdosta State University. Mr. Turknett was veteran of the United States Army and worked as assistant manager of The UPS Store in Thomasville. He was a member of West Bainbridge Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his son, James E. “Jay” Turknett; and his daughter, Sandra “Sandy” Turknett Wyman.
Survivors include his spouse, Susan Newberry of Thomasville; his grandson, Brendan Wyman of Bainbridge; his sister, Peggy Armintrout and family, of Carmichael, Calif.; his brothers, Don Turknett and family of Cochran, Ga., and Bobby Turknett and family of Bainbridge; and several nieces and nephews.
Ivey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
