Harvey Edward Stewart, 89, formerly of Attapulgus, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013, at his residence in Cairo, Ga.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Brian Hatchett and Dr. Joe Allen Jr. officiating, and will conclude at the church. Interment will be at Attapulgus Baptist Church Cemetery with his nephews, Buddy Boyette, Charles Perry, Ron Stewart, Bobby Stewart, Gary Rogers, David Lowery, Tim Harvey and Allen Lowery serving as active pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be the deacons of Calvary Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013, at Ivey Funeral Home.

Mr. Stewart was born Feb. 19, 1924, in Decatur County, the son of John Harvey Stewart and Mellie Lambert Stewart. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. Mr. Stewart was a retired electrician for Engelhard Corp. and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Salter Stewart; his granddaughter, Sheryl Stewart; his sisters, Dorothy Perry, Edith Harvey, and Estelle Wade; and his brother, John Henry Stewart.

Survivors include his son Lamar Edward “Pete” Stewart and his wife, Gail, of Bainbridge; his daughter, Mary Faye Ridley and her husband, Jerry, of Cairo; his brother, James Stewart of Climax; his sisters, Florence Boyette of Port St. Joe, Fla. and Annette Lowery of Port St. Joe; his grandchildren, Chad Stewart, Shane Key, Gabe Ridley, and Jake Ridley; and his six great-grandchildren.
