Well done, STAR students

Congratulations to the two high-school seniors who were recently named the Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) award winners for 2012-13 Thursday morning.
During a well-attended breakfast for the Bainbridge-College Chamber of Commerce, Bainbridge High School senior Caroline New and Grace Christian Academy senior Bryceson McQuaid were announced as the STAR students. New named Dr. Joan Beers as her STAR teacher of the year, and McQuaid selected Melissa Bryant as his STAR teacher of the year. New was also named the system-wide winner in the competition, and will move on to the regional level.
To be named the STAR student, a high-school senior must have the highest score on a single test date on the three-part SAT, and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their graduating class, based on grade-point average.
It was fitting that the announcement was made during the chamber’s breakfast, because students like New and McQuaid will likely be the future business and civic leaders of this nation. We congratulate them on their awards.
