Charlotte Dodson “ShaShu” Herring, 77, of Bainbridge, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at her residence.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Medley and Dr. Danny Shepard officiating. There will be a private interment at Beulah Thomas Baptist Church Cemetery, with Ed Patterson, Jeb Brown, Trey Suber, Maclane Suber, Ward Cole, and Cole Thomas serving as active pallbearers.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Charlotte was born April 10, 1935, in Bainbridge, the daughter of Winston Edward Dodson and Lillie Mae Sellars Dodson. She was a graduate of Faceville High School, Class of 1952, and married George H. Herring Jr. on May 19, 1957. She will be remembered for naming the “Bainbridge Ghetto” at Mexico Beach, and calling the gulf water “The Big Pond.”
ShaShu was always a “Country Girl” and enjoyed living a simple life. A blooming flower and a singing bird always made her happy. She was a dedicated daughter, wife, mother, sister, and friend.
Mrs. Herring was preceded in death by her son, Dr. George H. Herring, III; and her sister, Maxine Dodson Patterson.
Survivors include her husband, George H. Herring Jr.; her daughter, Melissa H. Stewart and her husband, Roger, of Albany, Ga.; her sisters, Jimmie Dodson Williams and her husband, J.P., of Eldorendo, and Gail Mills Brown and her husband, Bud, of Dallas, Texas; her grandson, Justin Stewart of Sylvester, Ga.; and her great-grandson, Peyton Stewart.
Ivey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
