Mrs. Marguerite Lawson Sloan passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at her home in Climax, Georgia. Services for Mrs. Sloan will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, December 21, at Climax Baptist Church. The Rev. Steve Poppell will officiate. The men of Climax Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 20, 2012, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Cox Funeral Home.
Marguerite Lawson was born September 4, 1922 in Climax to Thomas Riley Lawson and Mary Chester Lawson. She married William C. Sloan, who preceded her in death on July 4, 1974. Marguerite was a talented and loving educator. She taught elementary school for 45 years. She was a member of Climax Baptist Church. Over the years, Mrs. Sloan served the church in so many areas. She has taught Sunday School and worked in Bible School. Mrs. Sloan shared her musical talents through 70 years of dedicated service as church organist. She played for more weddings and funerals than can be counted. Every time she played, the performance was given as a gift of love.
Marguerite Lawson Sloan is survived by her son, William C. (Billy) Sloan, Jr. of Climax; sister, Virginia L. Johnson of Lyons, Georgia; nephews, Tommy Johnson and Clarke Johnson, both of Lyons; nieces, Beth McCall of Reidsville, Georgia, Emily Stanley of Lyons, and Ginger Wilson of Glennville, Georgia; cousins, Ed and Harriett McClendon of Atlanta, Georgia, William and Bobbie Chester of Whigham, Georgia, and George and Frances McCluskey of Columbus, Georgia.
