Services for Kenneth Pope Mobley, 71, of Whigham, Ga., will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, Dec.14, 2012, at Eastside Baptist Church, in Cairo, Ga. Dr. Paul Jones will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, in Cairo. Mr. Mobley passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at Grady General Hospital, in Cairo.
Pope was born on Sept. 25, 1941, in Grady County, to the late Arthur and Onice Pope Mobley. On Aug. 27, 1961, he married Janice Hancock Mobley, who survives. He was employed for many years at Chastain Tractor Company, followed by Lyle Propane, and retired from Drew Oil Company.
He loved his Savior, Jesus Christ. Pope was an active member of Eastside Baptist Church, where he was Deacon Emeritus and a former Christian Couples Sunday school class teacher. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard. Pope was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed cheering on his beloved Georgia Bulldogs.
He loved shopping for and spoiling his wife, Janice. He loved his family and adored his four grandchildren. He enjoyed mowing, timber management, riding his golf cart, and attending functions involving his grandchildren. He also enjoyed the company of his retirement companion, his cat, Mittie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter, Marla Kim Brock.
Survivors include his wife, Janice H. Mobley of Whigham; daughters, Kim Brock (Earl) of Whigham, Connie Butler (Walter) of Whigham; grandchildren, Dana Brock of Athens, Ga., Connor Brock of Valdosta, Ga., Kent Brock of Whigham, Holly Butler of Whigham; and his retirement companion, his cat, Mittie.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Thursday, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
