Maddox won’t run for State Senate

The following is a news release from Gene Maddox.
To the people of Senate District 11
I would like to thank the people of Southwest Georgia who have faith and confidence in me believing that I might be able to replace Senator John Bulloch.
When Senator Bulloch found it necessary to resign his seat I had many telephone calls asking me to run for this position. I had stepped down as Representative and had retired but my friends were so compelling I decided I might consider running. Let me say that Senator Bulloch cannot be replaced no matter who takes his seat. He has been a great asset to not only this district but to the whole State of Georgia. His resignation is a great loss to all of us.
Upon prayerful consideration I have decided not to run for this position. We are fortunate to have good candidates who are willing to place themselves up for nomination. I am very grateful to those who had confidence in me believing that I could serve effectively as a State Senator.
I personally feel I was very qualified and could have continued the support for Southwest Georgia in the fields of Agriculture, Immigration, Economic Development, Health, Education, etc. These are areas I have been actively dealing with as a Representative.
My wife and I feel we have come to the place in our lives that we need to enjoy the opportunity to travel or spend time with our children and grandchildren.
Thank you, Merry Christmas and may God bless each of you.
Representative Dr. Gene Maddox
