Decatur County Special Olympics held its fourth annual bowling event for the Decatur County school system at the Langston-Gray Bowling Center on November 27 from 8:30 until noon. Sixty participants were grouped by age and gender. Debbie Strickland, volunteer coordinator, had approximately 20 volunteers assisting the teachers and committee members to ensure the event ran smoothly and fun was had by all. Lunch was provided by the school system. Each participant earned a ribbon designating his/her placement by score, and each group was recognized and congratulated by cheers at the podium.
Participating committee members were Pat Harrell, chairperson; Paul Medley, local coordinator; Jim Beck, public relations/fundraising; Krystal Hiers, finance; Catherine Gossett, special education director; and Janie Kelley, school representative. Special thanks go to Jeff Kindelspire and his staff at the Bowling Center who helped make the bowling event a success.
Decatur County Special Olympics will host their first fundraiser January 19, 2013, at the Kirbo Center. The community will be treated to a vocal performance by The Miracles from The Baddour Center in Mississippi. Look for more details in the weeks ahead.
