Special to The Post-Searchlight
A day respite care program of Alzheimer’s Project, Inc., of Tallahassee, Fla., is partnering with Calvary Baptist Church and caregivers from the Bainbridge Alzheimer’s Support Group to make respite care a reality for the large group of caregivers here in the Decatur County area.
Respite care will start on Jan. 22 and continue on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month thereafter. This program will be provided at no cost to families and will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in the Fellowship Hall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The day respite care program offers the loved ones six hours of stimulating and engaging activities, including group activities, friendly conversation, walks, games, crafts, music, snacks, sittercise, meals and pet therapy interaction.
Volunteers are needed who are willing to give a few hours a month, as well as civic groups, organizations or businesses who can provide simple lunches. Partnership with local churches is encouraged to help with meals and volunteer services.
Volunteer training will be offered on three different days and times. They are: Monday, Nov. 5, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 10 a.m. to noon, and Thursday, Nov. 29, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Training will take place at Calvary Baptist Church.
Persons interested in volunteering, or those caring for a loved one with any form of dementia, and seeking to bring them to the respite care program, are asked to contact Recie Culpepper at (850) 386-2778 for more information.’
