Edgar “Red” Olivent, 86, of the Faceville community, passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at his residence.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at Faceville United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Gregg and Rev. Robert Johns officiating. Interment will follow at Sylvania Cemetery, with Chris Olivent, Charles Wiggins, Brad Norris, Greg Norris, Travis McLendon, and David Elkins serving as active pallbearers.

Mr. Olivent was born June 28, 1926, in Decatur County, the son of Olga Thaddeus “Odge” Olivent and Wilma Aline Freeman Olivent. He was a graduate of Faceville High School, Class of 1943, and the Coyne Electrical School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving during World War II, and was an independent pulpwood contractor for more than 40 years. Mr. Olivent was an active member of Faceville United Methodist Church, having served as a Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher for youth and adults, charge lay leader, and served on the board of trustees. Mr. Olivent was a member of Woodmen of the World for more than 60 years. He will be remembered for his love of golfing, fishing, and square dancing with his wife, Catherine.

Mr. Olivent was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Amanda Norris; and his brother, Francis Olivent.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Catherine Cantley Olivent of Faceville; his son, Stanley Olivent of Faceville; his daughter, Linda Norris and her husband, Jim, of Louisville, Ky.; his brothers, James Olivent and his wife, Jerry, of Faceville, Thad Olivent and his wife, Jane, of Oviedo, Fla., and Preston Olivent and his wife, Carolyn, of Lake Sinclair, Ga.; his sister, Mavis Wiggins of Conyers, Ga.; his sister-in-law, Polly Olivent of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and his grandsons, Brad Norris and Greg Norris.
