Mrs. Mildred Whitaker Gordon, 82, of Bainbridge, passed away early Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia, in Macon. Services for Mrs. Gordon were held Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at Cox Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Bruce Gordon officiated. The interment was held at Roselawn Memory Gardens.
Mildred Whitaker was born Feb. 16, 1930, in Miller County, to Wyatt and Chloe Bell Dean Whitaker. She married Harrison Gordon. Their marriage lasted 51 years, until his death. She was a homemaker and mother. Mrs. Gordon lived in Bainbridge for nearly 60 years, and she was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Delma Hoover; brothers, Lynwood and Irving Whitaker; and son-in-law, Sam Mock Sr.
Survivors include her children, Janice Gordon Mock of Tallahassee, Fla., Carol Umbach of Bainbridge, Clayton Gordon of Moultrie, Ga., Bruce Gordon and wife, Vicki, of Albany, Ga., Vicky Gordon Newton of Bainbridge, and Julie Scarboro and husband, Lee, of Tallahassee, Fla.; sisters and brothers, Nina Pickren and husband, C.L., of Colquitt, Ga., Melvin Whitaker and wife, Glenda of Bainbridge, Elisha Whitaker and wife, Sue, of Leesburg, Ga., Lester Whitaker and wife, Becky, of Moultrie, and Bill Whitaker and wife, Debbie, of Sylvester, Ga.; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cox Funeral Home was in charge.
