By unanimous vote, the Decatur County Board of Education voted Thursday to appoint Kelvin Bouie to complete the unexpired term as District 1 board member. The vacancy was created when Clarissa Kendrick resigned from the board on June 30.
Bouie was appointed by virtue of winning the July 31 election over Debbie Elkins. His official four-year term will begin in January.
The Georgia Secretary of State must approve the appointment, and then Bouie would have to be sworn in as a board member at the Decatur County Courthouse. Once approved and sworn-in, Bouie could begin serving beginning at the Aug. 16 monthly board meeting.
Bouie graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1981 and has worked for BASF (formerly Engelhard) in Attapulgus for 31 years. He is the manager of the United Steelworkers Local 170 and a member of the Attapulgus Volunteer Fire Department. Bouie has also served as a youth sports coach for YMCA and Bainbridge Leisure Services.
