The funeral service for Charles E. Thomas, 89, of Bainbridge, will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Paul Medley and Rev. Lynn Roberts officiating. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery in Meigs, Ga. The Baraca Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2012, at Ivey Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 155, Bainbridge, GA 39818.

Mr. Thomas was born May 22, 1923, in Tarrant City, Ala., the son of John Seaborn Thomas and Bessie Agnes Embry Thomas. He passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at Tift County Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Ga.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, serving as a first lieutenant and bombardier in a B-24 during World War II, and was a major in the Air Force Reserves. Mr. Thomas retired as the assistant district director for the State of Georgia Rehabilitation Services and was a former partner of Gibson Discount Center. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Bainbridge, and the Baraca Sunday School Class.

Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Selma Roberts Thomas.

Survivors include his sons, Bruce Thomas and his wife, Linda, of Woodstock, Ga., John Thomas and his wife, Cyrena, of Spanish Fort, Ala, and Alan Thomas and his wife, Connie, of Cobb, Ga.; his six grandchildren; his nine great-grandchildren; and his brother, Jack H. Thomas of Anniston, Ala.
