After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Bobby Weldon Stevens, 77, of Montgomery, Ala., passed away peacefully in his home on June 30, 2012.

Visitation will take place July 3, 2012, at 2:30 p.m. at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home with funeral services immediately following in the chapel. Entombment will follow at Alabama Heritage Mausoleum with full military honors. Honorary pallbearers will be Douglas Thienpont, Heath Herring, Jess Skaggs, Josh Skaggs, Michael Midler and Heys Wade.

Born on March 15, 1935, Bobby graduated from Mitchell County High School in Camilla, Ga., in 1953. He went on to have a 28-year career in the U.S. Air Force where he retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. Bobby served his country in many of the 50 states and on foreign soil. After his military service Bobby had careers with United Healthcare System, United Banc Corporation and the Bexar County (Texas) Sheriff’s Department.

Bobby was married to Betty Adams Stevens for 49 years and following her death in 2003, he married his wife of eight years, Hilda Gray Stevens. Bobby enjoyed golfing with his friends, fishing with his grandchildren and watching them play sports over the years.

Mr. Stevens was preceded in death by his mother and father Lily and Jesse Stevens; his first wife Betty Adams Stevens; his son-in-law Johnnie Thienpont; his stepson Mickey Connell; his brothers Bud, Jim, Jesse, Barney, Albert and Gilbert; and his sisters Alberta, Doris, Edna and Cleo.

Survivors include his wife Hilda Stevens of Montgomery; daughters, Janet Thienpont of San Antonio, Texas, Joni Stevens Skaggs and her husband Tom of Montgomery; stepchildren, Frances Connell Trulock, of Bainbridge, Libby Connell Prince and her husband Gus of Pinehurst, N.C., Keith Midler and his wife Kay of Jackson, Miss., and Paul Midler of Bainbridge; grandchildren Douglas Thienpont and his wife Theres, Heath Herring and his wife Kelly, Jess Skaggs and Josh Skaggs; step-grandchildren Heys Wade, Blake Midler and his wife Ashley, Michael, Rachael and Alex Midler; great-grandchildren, Aden, Johnnie and Lily Thienpont and Brock Herring; and his numerous nieces and nephews.

The family requests that contributions be made to Hospice of Montgomery 111 Holloway Park, Montgomery, AL 36117.
