Youth curfew is a good idea for Bainbridge

The City of Bainbridge passed an effective ordinance Tuesday, approving the proposed youth curfew.

Under this curfew, no minor under the age of 18 will be allowed to loiter, idle or congregate in any public street, highway, alley or park between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. on weekdays, and midnight and 6 a.m. on weekends, unless the minor is accompanied by an adult or guardian.

This ordinance is a good idea because it puts the responsibility back on the parents. It’s important for parents to know where their kids are at all times, especially during night hours. There is no reason for an unsupervised child to be out that late at night, except for the specific exceptions provided in the ordinance.

It has often been said that “nothing good happens after dark,” and we believe this curfew will help make our community safer and also keep our young people safer.
