Bonnie Foister Odom, 66, died suddenly April 20, 2012, at her home in Madison, Ga. Services were held at Madison First United Methodist Church on Monday, April 23, 2012.
Pallbearers were Tom Odom, brother-in-law, Trey Odom, Andrew Odom, Matthew Odom, Chuck Woods, all Bonnie’s beloved nephews, along with Ricky McGinnis and David Burbach, both very dear friends of the Odom family.
Bonnie was born March 13, 1946, in Bainbridge, to Quinnon and Madie Foister. She graduated from Valdosta State College with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. In 1975, she met the love of her life, Rete (Sandy) Rivers Odom Jr., and the two married the following year. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister and friend. She adored her family and friends and her greatest joy in life was helping others.
Bonnie was an active member of the Madison First United Methodist Church. She was a primary school teacher for more than 30 years, and during this time received a “Teacher of the Year” award at Morgan County Primary School.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Rete (Sandy), of Madison; daughter, Elizabeth; and son, Chip, both of Atlanta, Ga.; her mother, Madie Foister of Vada; sister, Sandra Woods of Valdosta, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Beth Odom of Valdosta; niece Lisa Woods of Atlanta; nephews Chuck Woods of Cleveland, Ohio, Matthew and Andrew Odom; Trey Odom (Lindsey) and three great-nieces, Catherine, Claire, and Hensley Odom, all of Valdosta.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made in her memory to Duke Children’s Hospital, 2301 Erwin Road, Durham, N.C. 27710.
