New YMCA CEO has big shoes to fill

Bainbridge’s YMCA will be getting a new CEO on Tuesday, as Adam Schrott of Fort Myers, Fla., arrives in Decatur County to begin his new job.
Interim CEO Mike Haynes has been serving in an interim role since September 2011, and most people would tell you that he has done a fantastic job. Haynes came to Decatur County under tough circumstances, as the YMCA faced financial problems and its previous CEO had just resigned.
But in his nine months, Haynes and his staff have worked hard to improve the YMCA. Through their leadership, fundraising has increased and the participation in programs — such as youth sports — have also seen a jump.
Thanks to the work of Mike Haynes, our YMCA is now arguably in a much better position than it was last September. Now it’s time for Adam Schrott to take the reigns and lead our YMCA into the future.
A vibrant YMCA is important to a community, because it meets a variety of needs. It gives people a chance to improve their quality of life through exercise opportunities; it provides mentoring to young people; and it offers hope to countless citizens.
We hope that Adam Schrott and his staff continue the good work of his predecessor and we welcome him and his family to Bainbridge.
