Funeral services for Mr. Jack B. Thigpen Sr., 87, a native of Oconee, Ga., will be Saturday, April 21, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church in Chattahoochee, Fla. at 11 a.m. (Eastern Daylight Time), with the Rev. Mike Hutcherson officiating. Interment services will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, U.S. Highway 90 East of Chattahoochee. Military honors will be provided by Post 241 of Sneads, Fla.

Mr. Thigpen died in Marianna, Fla. on Monday, April 16, 2012, after a lengthy illness. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chattahoochee, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as Sergeant with Battery B634 Antiaircraft Artillery. He was a retired lumber broker, after owning and managing the Thigpen Lumber Company in Chattahoochee.

He was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Annette Jones Thigpen, who predeceased him in 2005; his parents, Abbott Dwight and Ruth Leah Bloodworth Thigpen; and two brothers, Allen D. and Raymond L. Thigpen.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Johnson Thigpen of Bainbridge; his son, Dr. Jack B. Thigpen Jr. and his wife Brenda of Lakeland, Fla.; two daughters, Jeanne Pujadas and her husband Tom of Ocilla, Ga. and Joy Pujadas and her husband Bill of Jacksonville, Fla.; eight grandchildren.

Visitation with the family will take place at Lanier-Andler Funeral Home in Sneads, Fla., on Friday, April 20, 2012, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. EDT.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Alzheimers Foundation, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011.
