The funeral service for Alvin Jerome Dollar, 91, of Bainbridge, will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Medley officiating. Interment will follow at Oak City Cemetery with Jebb Stone, Cuyler Stone, Tripp Powell, Byrl Harrell, Eddie Sharber, and Hugh Dollar serving as active pallbearers. The Baraca Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday at Ivey Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 155, Bainbridge, GA 39818 or the American Cancer Society, 101 W. Water Street, Bainbridge, GA 39817.

Jerome was born Feb. 28, 1921, in Bainbridge, the son of Joseph Elijah Dollar and Zudie Missouri Mills Dollar. He died Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Westminster Oaks in Tallahassee, Fla. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School and attended the University of Georgia, where he was a member of the track team. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II and returned to Bainbridge and worked with Dollar Farm Products, Inc. He was the president of Dollar Bros., Inc., when he retired.

He was a past president of Bainbridge Country Club, and a member of First Baptist Church and the Baraca Sunday School Class. He was an avid golfer and loved to travel.

Mr. Dollar was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Wynn Dollar; and his brothers, Hubert Dollar and Joe Dollar Jr.

Survivors include his son, Jerry Dollar and his wife, Carone, of Fresno, Calif.; his daughters, Penny D. Cook and her husband, Kinson, of Tallahassee, Nancy Dollar of Thomasville, Ga., and Kriss D. Powell and her husband, Wesley, of Bainbridge; his brother, Lamar Dollar of Bainbridge; his grandchildren, Jebb Stone, Cuyler Stone, Blair Stone-Schneider, Wynn Powell Almond and Tripp Powell; and his great-grandchildren, Mikey Stone, Caleb Stone, Isabel Schneider, Sylvi Schneider and Wes Almond.
