The Bainbridge High School Bearcats baseball team improved their record to 5-1, with a 3-2 Friday victory over Albany’s Westover High School Patriots at Bearcat Field.
The Patriots scored early, taking a 1-0 lead on two walks and a single in the top of the first inning.
The Bearcats struck back with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, to go up 2-1. Shortstop Brandon Bates and designated hitter Blake Voyles walked and came in on an RBI single to right by catcher Cole Granato.
Bainbridge scored the tying and winning runs in bottom of the fourth.
Voyles walked on a 3-1 pitch to open the inning. He moved up to second when Granato laid down a sacrifice bunt. With two away, right fielder Michael Faircloth singled in Voyles with an RBI single up the middle.
Faircloth moved to second on a wild pitch and went to third on a passed ball. He came in with the go-ahead run on an infield hit by left fielder Trey Suber.
Right hander Matt Burke, who started on the mound for the Bearcats, pitched into the fifth inning and picked up the victory.
Right hander Jordan Massey finished in relief and got the save.
The Bearcats returned to action Tuesday when they traveled to Cairo, Ga., for a game against the Cairo School Syrupmakers at Jackie Robinson Field. That game was not completed by press time.
They will return home Friday for their first Region 1-AAAA game against the Warner Robins High School Demons at 5 p.m.
