A variety of art will be shown at the Decatur County Artists’ Guild juried Spring Art Show, which kicks off with an artists’ reception at the Firehouse Center and Gallery on Thursday evening.
Artwork on display will include drawings, paintings, photography, ceramics and sculptures. The show features work from 17 members of the guild and 67 individual pieces of work altogether. Prizes will also be given to first, second, and third places for each category of artwork and photography. There will also be a best in show winner.
In addition to the reception on Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Spring Art Show will be open for public viewing on Friday through Sunday, March 2nd through 4th, and again on the weekend of March 9-11. The Firehouse Center and Gallery will be open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on those dates.
“It’s a strong showing of artwork from our local artists, and we have a very talented number of artists right here,” said Kathy Ketterer, president of the Artists’ Guild.
Anne H. Stagg who is the director of the Bachelor of Fine Arts Studio Art Program at Florida State University judged the artwork.
“I did try with awarding the prizes across a wide variety of interest points for me,” Stagg said. “I looked for pieces that were conceptually strong, humor, technical ability, composition, and something that really just grabbed my attention.”
Stagg also mentions how she felt that there were a lot of talented artists and that she found it challenging to jury.
Catered refreshments and wine will be served at the artists’ reception.
