The Bainbridge High School Bearcats edged the Miller County High School Pirates, 39-37, Saturday in Colquitt, Ga., to improve their season basketball record to 12-4.
Bainbridge coach Rickey McCullough said the final minute of the outcome was in doubt, right up until the final possession.
“We were up by five and Miller County hit a three-pointer to cut it to two,” McCullough said. “We inbounded the ball on a long pass downcourt and we were called for a foul. They missed the front end of a one-and-one, and that is the way the game ended.”
The Bearcats took on the Thomasville High School Bulldogs on Tuesday night in Thomasville.
They will begin their Region 1-AAAA play this weekend, hosting the Thomas County Central High School Yellow Jackets on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and the Lee County High School Trojans on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Bearcats forward Paul Chukes took game scoring honors Saturday night with 17 points. Guard Dontavius Marshall added six, and forwards Trea Kelly and Greg Lee put in five apiece.
Rounding out the Bearcats’ scoring column were Dillen Thomas, Justin Baker and Mike Jones, all with two.
Jacoby Jones led the Pirates with 14 points. Also in double figures were Lamar Perkins with 11 and Alvin Hooper with 10. Jeremy Stevens put in two.
