Services for Onieta Shirah Rich, 71, of Cairo, Ga., will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at Capel Baptist Church in Cairo. Rev. Robert Crapps and Rev. Renee Gee-Theophille will officiate. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Pelham, Ga.
Active pallbearers will be Larry McCorkle, LaDon Sellers, Mark Dearborn, James Willis, Glenn Barrett, Clark Palmer, Chris Faircloth and Tommy Norton. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class from Capel Baptist Church.
Ms. Rich was born on April 21, 1940, in Pelham, to the late George W. Shirah and Mildred Bethenia Pollock Shirah. She passed away on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at her home in northern Grady County.
On June 19, 1965, she married Leroy Rich, who preceded her in death on May 26, 1991. She was a retired homemaker and a member of Capel Baptist Church.
Ms. Rich was a loving mama, grandmama, and great-grandmama. She loved to work in her yards, taking care of her roses and all her other flowers. In the last few years, she enjoyed being at the flower shop with her son, Craig. She enjoyed meeting all the people who came into the shop. Everyone started calling her “Grandmama” and she loved all her new friends.
Ms. Rich was preceded in death by: her parents, George and Bethenia Shirah; and her husband, Leroy Rich.
Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Larry Ouzts of Bainbridge, Kathy and Randy Smith of Cairo; son, Craig Brock of Cairo; granddaughters and spouses, Holly and Tim Burdick of Bainbridge, Lori and Bobby Brown of Bainbridge, Jamie and Chad Allen of Cairo, Joni and Will Bundrick of Woodstock, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Curtis Brown, Alissa Brown, Holden Burdick, all of Bainbridge, Tyson Allen of Cairo, Zachary Burdick of Bainbridge, Liam Bundrick of Woodstock; sisters, Kate Williams of Pelham, and Jean Thomaston of Kathleen, Ga.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Clark Funeral Home in Cairo is in charge of the arrangements.
