Coach Chad Smith’s Bainbridge High School Bearcats wrestling team defeated two fellow Region 1-AAAA foes Tuesday night in Albany, Ga.
They opened with a victory over the Thomas County Central High School Yellow Jackets and closed the night out with a win over Columbus’s Hardaway High School Golden Hawks.
Bearcats who posted victories in their matches were Grayson Heard, Collin Ward, Ashton Cato, Latavious Baker, Cole Bulger, Agipito Estala, Cameron Fountain, Brandon Crawford and Carlos Silva.
Smith was pleased with his wrestlers’ performances in Albany.
“I had a few wrestlers step up tonight and show that they belong on the mat,” he said, following the matches. “Carlos Silva and Collin Ward showed a lot of improvement and both pulled out two wins.
“The first five matches against Thomas County went our way and we were able to keep a steady pace. By the time the heavyweight division came around, we had it in the bag.”
Smith described the second match against Hardaway as a little more rocky.
“The Hardaway match was a tight battle all the way and a few of the matches could have gone either way,” he said.
