The Bainbridge Middle School seventh-grade Bearcats and Lady Cats basketball teams split two Wednesday games, against the Miller County Middle School seventh-grade Pirates and Lady Pirates Wednesday in Colquitt, Ga.
Tyler Jackson hit a three-point jumper from the left side with just one second remaining Wednesday, to give the Bearcats a thrilling 26-25 victory over the Pirates.
Coach Latoya Ross’s Lady Cats bowed 24-13 to the Lady Pirates. They were led by La’Kaisia Willis, with four points. Iesha Smart, Deja Cooper and Victoria Sprenkle all scored three points.
Tykeria Holmes of the Lady Pirates took game-scoring honors with 11.
Bearcats coach Patrick Clark said he was proud of the way his team came back in the fame.
“We were down by five points with a minute and 50 seconds remaining in the game,” he said. “It was at that point that I decided to come out of the zone defense and play them man-to-man.
“We forced some turnovers and ultimately got into position to hit the game winning shot.”
Jackson led the Bearcats in scoring with eight points. Keyshawn Madge added seven and Eddie Cooper put in six. Dalvin Spivey contributed four.
“Our entire team played well against Miller County,” Clark said. “It was a team victory and I am proud of all our players.
“We are now 2-3 for the season and we will be hosting the Thomas County Central Middle School seventh-grade Yellow Jackets next Wednesday, Dec. 7, at the Decatur County Memorial Coliseum.
“We will conclude our season Tuesday, Dec. 13, against the Whigham Middle School seventh-grade Indians in Whigham.”
