The funeral service for Iona Harrell Dean, 94, of Vada, was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at Prosperity Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Walter Todd and Rev. Tim Dean officiating. Interment followed at Prosperity Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with her grandchildren serving as active pallbearers.
Memorial donations may be made to Prosperity Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or to Hospice of Southwest Georgia.
Mrs. Dean was born March 19, 1917, in Bainbridge, the daughter of Levi P. Harrell and Earle Brock Harrell. She died Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at her residence. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School, was a retired nutritional consultant with the Decatur County Cooperative Extension Service of the University of Georgia and was a homemaker. Mrs. Dean was very active in her community and was a member of Prosperity Primitive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W. L. Dean.
Survivors include her son, Lawrence Richard Dean and his wife, Leisa, of Vada; her daughters, Cheryl K. Beard and her husband, Stephen, of Tempe, Ariz. and Cathy D. Wilson and her husband, Jerome, of Vada; her brothers, Robert Harrell of Vada, and Marvin Harrell and his wife, Margie, of Bainbridge; her eight grandchildren, Ric Dean and his wife Dia, Carrie Dean, Carla Dean, Alia Beard Rau and her husband Phil, Jeremy Beard and his wife Gina, Mandy Wilson Simpson and her husband James, Andrea Wilson Castleberry and her husband Joey, Lance Wilson; and her eight great-grandchildren.
Ivey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
