Lee County likes to throw

The Lee County Trojans, the Bainbridge Bearcats’ Region 1-AAAA opponent Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Leesburg, Ga., likes to strike with an aerial attack.

“Lee County will throw it a lot more than they will run it,” Bainbridge head coach Ed Pilcher said Monday.

Trojans quarterback Matt Mears leads the region in passing. He has completed 120 of 228 passes for 1,507 yards and 16 touchdowns. He has also thrown eight interceptions.

Mears’ top receivers are Josh Cabrera and Casey Hightower.

Cabrera is the region’s leading receiver, with 47 receptions for 614 yards and a 13.1 yards-per-reception average. Hightower is sixth in the region, with 19 catches for 225 yards and an 11.8 yards-per-reception average.

Defensively, the Trojans are led by linebackers Thomas Wright and T.C. Carr, who are fifth and sixth in Region 1-AAAA in tackles.

Wright has 67 tackles, 37 solo and 30 assisted, and Carr has 65 tackles, 40 solo and 25 assisted.

Defensive back Andrew Stroud is 10th in the Region in tackles with 54 — 32 solo and 22 assisted.
