Late Bouie run clinches Bearcats victory

WARNER ROBINS — Damian Bouie ran 97 yards for a touchdown with 3:41 left in the game Saturday night in Warner Robins, giving the Bainbridge Bearcats a 28-24 come from behind Region 1-AAAA victory over the Houston County Bears.

The Bearcats, who are now 6-1 overall and 3-1 in Region 1-AAAA play, will host the Warner Robins Demons in a Region 1-AAAA game Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Centennial Field. It will be homecoming for the Bearcats.

The Bears, who had taken a 24-21 lead when Hunter Heck kicked a 28-yard field goal with 9:32 left in the game, took an early 14-0 lead with two first quarter touchdowns.

Quarterback Taylor Ring threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to flanker Travis Hunter with 9:41 left in the first quarter, and Heck kicked the extra point to put the Bears ahead 7-0.

Ring ran 13 yards for a touchdown with 8:42 left in the first quarter to complete a three-play, 33-yard drive, and Heck kicked the extra point to bring the Bears’ advantage up 14-0.

The Bearcats cut it to 14-7 when Terry Lewis ran off the right side for 25 yards and a touchdown. The scoring play culminated a 12-play, 80-yard drive with 3:00 left in the first quarter. Daniel Provence kicked the extra point.

Bainbridge pulled even 14-14 on a Bouie 45-yard touchdown run off the left side and a Provence extra point with 8:14 left in the second quarter. The run concluded a two-play, 48-yard drive.

The Bearcats went ahead 21-14 when Lewis ran 49 yards for a touchdown with 6:22 left in the second quarter. Provence kicked the extra point.

Lewis returned the second half kickoff 99 yards for an apparent touchdown but it was nullified by a block-in-the-back penalty.

Ring ran 2 yards off the right side for a touchdown and Heck kicked the extra point with 8:50 showing on the third quarter clock, culminating a five-play, 13-yard drive that pulled the Bears even at 21-21.
