Seventh-grade Tigers down Bearcats, 20-12

Austin Shattles threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Vendarious Hubbard with 24.5 seconds left Wednesday, breaking a 12-12 tie and leading Cairo’s Washington Middle School seventh-grade Tigers to a 20-12 victory over the Bainbridge Middle School seventh-grade Bearcats at Centennial Field.
Hubbard ran in for the conversion to tack on the final two points.
Running back Dalvin Spivie, who scored both Bainbridge touchdowns, ran around the left side, broke loose and ran 75 yards for a touchdown with 4:23 left in the game pulling the Bearcats even at 12-12.
Spivie tried to run off the right side for the two-point conversion but was stopped just short.
Spivie gave the Bearcats an early 6-0 lead when he ran 5 yards for a touchdown with 4:03 left in the first quarter. He started to his right, cut back to his left, and sprinted into the end zone. He was stopped just short trying to run in for the two-point conversion.
The Tigers pulled even at 6-6, when Hubbard ran 5 yards for a touchdown with 2:30 left in the second quarter. He tried to run in for the two-point conversion but was stopped short.
The Tigers went ahead, 12-6, when Walt Grant ran 70 yards down the left side for a touchdown with 59.9 seconds left in the second quarter. He tried to run in for the two-point conversion, but was stopped short.
The Bearcats, who are 1-3 for the season, will have an open date next week and wrap up the season Wednesday, Oct. 12, against the Thomas County Central Middle School seventh-grade Yellow Jackets on the road.
