The funeral service for Wayne Casey, 79, of Bainbridge, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1, at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Hatchett officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens with Tarrell Bennett, Bobby Palmer, Gene Powell, Keith Trawick, Floyd Marmon, and Warren Hawthorne serving as active pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Ivey Funeral Home.
Mr. Casey was born Sept. 16, 1931 in Guntersville, Ala., the son of Oscar Casey and Elizabeth Manard Casey. He died Aug. 29 at his residence. He was a graduate of Laurel Hill High School, attended the University of Alabama, and was an ordained minister. An entrepreneur, Mr. Casey was involved with many diversified businesses. He performed in the Martha White Show, on stage at the Grand Ole Opry, and was formerly a Decatur County Commissioner. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Mr. Casey was preceded in death by his son, Randall Oscar Casey; his brothers, Curtis Casey and Roman Casey; and his sister, Lorene C. Strawhorn.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Jean Casey of Bainbridge; his sons, Doug Casey and his wife, Marie, of Crestview, Fla., Dewayne Casey and his wife, Rhonda, of Savannah, and Mike Casey and his wife, Debbie, of Tallahassee; his brother, R.J. Casey of River Falls, Ala.; his grandchildren, Margie Casey, Kevin Casey, Christina Casey, William Casey, Brandon Casey, and Tristan Casey; and his two great-grandchildren.
