Lady Cats beat Thomasville 8-2

Coach Eugene Singletary’s Bainbridge High School Lady Cats softball team defeated the Thomasville High School Lady Bulldogs 8-2 Tuesday in Thomasville.
The Lady Cats grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top half of the second inning. Second baseman Avis Jackson drew a walk to open the inning and was forced out at second on a fielder’s choice.
Right fielder Tiffany Hand singled and was out at second when third baseman Laura Griner hit into a fielder’s choice.
First baseman Lindsey Griner followed with a single. Laura Griner scored on a single by center fielder Anna Barber and Lindsey Griner scored on a wild pitch.
The Lady Cats pushed another run across the plate in the top of the third. The run was scored by winning pitcher Caitlin Cato, who singled. Cato went to second on an error, moved to third on a single by catcher Kristen Bennett and came in on an error.
The Lady Bulldogs scored two in the bottom of the fourth to cut it to 3-2, but the Lady Cats came right back with one in the top of the fifth, three in the top of the sixth and one in the top of the seventh to put the game away.
Cato started the fifth-inning rally with a one-out single. She came home on a clutch two-out single by Jackson.
Bainbridge’s three-run sixth inning rally was started by Laura Griner, who singled. With one away, Barber beat out a bunt and Griner came around to score on a throwing error. Walks to Diamond Bouie and Cato loaded the bases. Bennett then singled to drive in Barber and Bouie.
The seventh-inning was scored by Laura Griner, who doubled and came in on a single by Barber.
