Lady Cats down Brooks, improve to 6-1

The Bainbridge Lady Cats softball team shut out the Brooks County Lady Trojans, 9-0, Thursday in Quitman to improve their season record to 6-1.

Pitcher Caitlin Cato went all the way on the mound to pick up the victory, allowing just one hit.

The Bearcats went ahead to stay with two first-inning runs. Caitlin Cato got aboard on an error leading off the inning and center fielder Diamond Bouie was hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second.

They moved up on a fielder’s choice and came in on a single by catcher Kristen Bennett.

The Lady Cats’ big scoring inning was the third, when they rallied for six runs. Key blows in the inning were a three-run triple by Bennett and an RBI double by third baseman Laura Griner.

They added their final run in the top of the fourth. It was scored by Bennett, who singled, moved to second on a single by third baseman Laura Griner and came in on a single by right fielder Tiffany Hand.

The Lady Cats will return to action Tuesday when they host the Cairo Syrupmaids at 5:45 p.m. at the Lady Cats’ Diamond. The school’s junior varsity teams will meet at 4 p.m.
