Carrilyn “Connie” Lilly Dehler, 84, of St. Croix, U. S. Virgin Islands, and Atlanta, Ga., passed away on Aug. 15, 2011, after a valiant, year-long battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be held at the Chapel of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church, at Emory University, on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 4 p.m.
Born in Atlantic City, N. J., Connie earned a bachelor’s degree from Trenton State Teachers College, a master’s degree from Rutgers University, and a specialist in education certification from the University of Georgia. Connie was a high school guidance counselor in DeKalb County, Ga., for 20 years and on the island of St Croix, for 10 years. She was an ardent golfer and bridge player, as well as a world traveler, avid reader, real estate broker, and hot-air balloon pilot.
Connie was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Raymond L. Dehler.
She is survived by her son, Mark; daughters, Janna Morgan and Kim Dehler; grandchildren, Kim Shartar and Jack Morgan; step-grandson, Jarrett Griffin; daughter-in-law, Cathy Cox; and son-in-law, Gene Morgan.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, to the Connie Dehler Women’s Golf Scholarship at Young Harris College (P.O. Box 98, Young Harris, GA 30582), or to First Tee of East Lake, a program of the East Lake Foundation (2606 Alston Drive, Atlanta, GA 30317), which provides golf instruction to area youth.
