Soccer coach and player earn top honors

Bainbridge High School Bearcats head soccer coach Jamie Ard and his star senior midfielder Hal Clement have both earned top honors.

Coach Ard, who led his 2011 Bearcats to a 12-2 record, was named Region 1AAAA South Sub-Region coach of the year. The varsity boys soccer team posted the best season record in school history and won the Region 1AAAA South Sub-Region championship.

Clement was named Region 1AAAA South Sub-Region player of the year. He had 26 goals and 10 assists last season and is the leading goal scorer in school history with 61.

Clement, son of Cindy and Hal Clement Jr., has signed a soccer scholarship with the Middle Georgia Junior College Warriors in Cochran.

Warriors and Lady Warriors soccer coach Vinnie Gill said what he likes most about Clement is his versatility on the field.

“Hal will probably play defensive midfield for us, but he has the talent and versatility to play anywhere on the field and be successful,” Coach Gill said.

Coach Ard said Clement is  not only a strong player, but a strong leader as well.

“Hal Clement is one of the best leaders and hardest workers I have ever coached,” he said.
