Funeral services for David L. Haywood, 61, of Colquitt, Ga., were held Tuesday, May 31, in the Sheffield Funeral Chapel at Colquitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel Dean officiating.

Born Feb. 7, 1950, Mr. Haywood died on Sunday, May 29, 2011, at the Miller County Hospital.

Mr. Haywood served in the U.S. Navy and attended Mount Olive Holiness Church. “Lieutenant David,” as he was known at work, loved his job as a detail officer at the Decatur County Correctional Institute in Bainbridge and was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jean Haywood; one sister, Mariellen Eaken; one brother, Randy Haywood, and one son, Christopher David Haywood.

Survivors include two sons, Jamie Haywood of Donalsonville, Ga., and David Lee Haywood of Colquitt, Ga.; two sisters, Maxine Edwards of Camilla, Ga., and Abigail Richardson of Spruce Pine, N.C.; two brothers, Bo Haywood of Colquitt, Ga., and Jimmy Haywood of Brinson, Ga., and a granddaughter.

Colquitt Funeral Home in Colquitt, Ga., was in charge of arrangements.
