The funeral service for Luther Nelson Barber, 76, of Climax, Ga., will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Steve Poppell, Devid Rich and David Grubbs officiating.
Interment will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery near Climax. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the chapel.
Mr. Barber was born Dec. 23, 1934, in Bainbridge, the son of Bennett Franklin Barber and Vada Nichols Barber. He died Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Archbold Memorial Hospital. He retired from the maintenance department at Engelhard Corp. and was a member of Climax Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, Ben and Ellie Eakin; his daughter-in-law, Kaye Rich Barber; his brothers, Evans Barber and Leonard Barber, and his sisters, Adell Whiddon, Irene Spooner, Jane Spooner and Nell Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Merita Eakin Barber of Climax; his daughters, Kaye Clark and her husband, Jason, of Climax, Joyce Day and her husband, Terry, of Bainbridge, Becky Bullock of Georgetown, Ga., and Ann Vulgamore and her husband, Don, of Climax; his sons, John Barber and his wife, Elise, of Climax, Tony Barber of Bainbridge, and L.W. Eakin of Panama City, Fla.; his brother, William Lee Barber and his wife, Virgie, of Bainbridge; his sisters, Sara Bellflower of Bainbridge, Juanita Talbert and her husband, Dennis, of Bainbridge, and Mildred Sapp of Valdosta; 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Ivey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
