The memorial service for James Harold Yates, 74, of Brinson, Ga., will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Scott Messer officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Mr. Yates was born Nov. 22, 1936, in Bainbridge, the son of Clemin Damascus Yates and Alma Lucile Rabon Yates. He died Monday, May 24, 2011, at his residence. He was a graduate of West Bainbridge High School, Class of 1954 and retired with more than 25 years of service in the U.S. Army Reserves. Mr. Yates was a salesman for Callahan Building and Supplies, a member of Bethany Baptist Church, and Salem Lodge # 267 F&AM.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty Sue Yates of Brinson; his son, Terry Yates of Valdosta; his daughter, Rhonda Sanders of Valdosta, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ivey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
