The funeral service for Herbert L. “Sonny” Jeffords Jr., 84, of Bainbridge, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Randy Mosley officiating.

Interment will be at Oak City Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Patrick Reesby, Josh Horton, Ben Horton, Cole Farrington, Cameron Jeffords, Corey Jeffords, Nick Barber, Jonathan Farrington, Jeremy Jeffords-Vermillion, Tom Sipp and Bill Reynolds.

Mr. Jeffords was born Feb. 28, 1927, in Bainbridge, the son of Herbert Leon Jeffords and Ruth Miller Jeffords. He died Sunday, May 15, 2011, at his residence.

He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School and the University of Richmond, Class of 1951, and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Mr. Jeffords served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of First United Methodist Church. He founded Jeffords Insurance in 1951 and operated Jeffords Insurance and Realty until his retirement in 1992.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Thompson Jeffords of Bainbridge; his daughters, Laura Jeffords Horton of Cochran, Ga., Martha Jeffords Reesby and her husband, Pat, of Kingwood, Texas, and Winde B. Farrington and her husband, Brent, of Bainbridge; his sons, H.L. “Jeff” Jeffords III and his wife, Patty, of Odessa, Fla., and Mike Barber and his wife, Lisa, of Bainbridge; his 18 grandchildren, and his four great-grandchildren.
