Ask the mayor

Dear Mayor Reynolds,
My yard trash has not been picked up in over a week. Can you please tell me why the city is so far behind?
The City of Bainbridge strives to pick up yard trash in a timely manner, but during busy times like in the fall when the leaves are falling and early spring when people clean their yards for the first time of the year, it is nearly impossible to keep up with all the yard trash that our citizens have.
The city employs enough sanitation workers to keep up during regular times of the year, but it is not feasible to hire extra people for just a month or so during the busy times. During these busy times, we can assure you that your yard trash will be picked up at least once every 15 business days.
The city is doing several things to evaluate how we can speed up this process, including working hard to get all of our equipment in good working order, as well as considering extra equipment to be more able to fully implement additional labor during peak season.
We are also encouraging residents to start using biodegradable lawn bags. These bags are different from regular plastic trash bags, and are available at most large stores. Using these bags will allow our workers to collect the yard trash more quickly and not have to get out of the truck to rake and pile the debris multiple times for pick up at each stop.
Sincerely,
Mayor Edward Reynolds
