Lady Cats strong second in Region

The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats finished a strong second in the Region 1AAAA Girls Track Meet Tuesday in Albany.

The meet championship was captured by Columbus’s Hardaway High School Golden Hawks.

BHS’ Raven Burney, who is just a freshman, won the region championship in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 8 inches.

BHS’ Diamond Bouie, the region champion in the high jump, cleared the bar at a height of 5 feet 2 inches.

The Lady Cats’ 4-by-400-meter relay team of Khadeeijah Cooper, Ashley Mango, Raven Burney and Diamond Bouie sprinted home first in a time of 4 minutes, 8.13 seconds. The top two individuals and relay teams in each event advanced to the State Class AAAA Meet Thursday, May 12 through Saturday, May 14 back at Albany’s Hugh Mills Memorial Stadium Track.

Jasmine Belin finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 34 feet, 5 inches. Khadeedra Sparrow finished second in the shot put with a heave of 33 feet, 2 inches and placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 85 feet, 3 inches.

Diamond Bouie

Also taking second places and earning state meet berths were Khadeeijah Cooper with a 300-meter hurdles time of 47.91 seconds and Bouie with a 100-meter hurdles time of 15.87 seconds. Bouie was also third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.68 seconds.

Cooper was also fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.81 seconds. Tiffany Braswell was fourth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 13 minutes, 48.90 seconds and sixth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6 minutes, 19.95 seconds.

Tearnee Harvin took fifth in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 4 inches and Portia Green took fifth in the high jump, clearing the bar at a height of 4 feet, 10 inches. Cameron Williams took fifth in the shot put with a heave of 31 feet.

Raven Burney and Ashley Mango took sixth and seventh in the 400-meter run with times of 1 minute, 3.50 seconds and 1 minute, 3.75 seconds, respectively. Tiara Adams took sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 32 feet, 7.5 inches.
