Coach Scott Miller’s Bainbridge High School varsity baseball team completed their season with a hard-fought, two-out-of-three region playoff loss to the Northside High School Warner Robins Eagles.
The Bearcats, who finish the season with an 11-15 overall record, a 2-9 Region 1AAAA record and an 0-6 Region 1AAAA South Sub-Region record, dropped a 17-7 decision to the Eagles in the first game on Friday.
The Bearcats bounced back in the nightcap to down the Eagles 12-4 and force a third and deciding Saturday morning game, which the Eagles won 11-1.
The big scoring inning for the Bearcats in their 12-4 Friday win over the Eagles was the third inning, when they rallied for six runs.
Shortstop Ryan Wade drew a one-out walk to begin the third-inning rally. He later came around to score along with first baseman Blake Voyles, who singled, catcher Drew Kelley, who walked, designated hitter Gunnar Griffin, who was hit by a pitch, right fielder Michael Faircloth, who walked, and center fielder Stephen Lightfoot, who doubled.
The key blow in BHS’ five-run, sixth inning rally was a two-run home run by center fielder Stephen Lightfoot, who drove in four runs in the game.
The Bearcats added a run in the seventh on a Wade single and a Kelley double.
In Saturday morning’s deciding game, the Bearcats loaded the bases in the first. Shortstop Ryan Wade, who ignited the potential rally with a single, was thrown out by Eagles’ center fielder Cam Brigman while aggressively trying to score.
