Lady Cats strong in region prelims

Coach Tandria Phillips Bainbridge High School Lady Cats track team qualified runners in five of the nine events at Wednesday’s Region 1AAAA Preliminary Meet in Albany.

The Lady Cats will defend their 2010 Region 1AAAA championship this coming Tuesday, May 3 back at Hugh Mills Memorial Stadium Track, site of Wednesday’s preliminary meet.

The top four finishing individuals and relay teams from Wednesday advanced to the region finals.

A first place preliminary meet performance were turned in by Diamond Bouie with a 16.30 second 100-meter hurdles time. Bouie was also fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.26 seconds. In the 1600-meter run, Tiffany Braswell took sixth in a time of 6 minutes, 19.95 seconds.

The 4-by-400-meter relay team of Bouie, Khadeeijah Cooper, Ashley Mango and Raven Burney. won in a time of 4 minutes, 14.53 seconds.

Also qualifying individually for the region finals were  Cooper, who was second in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 48.95 seconds. She was also fiifth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.45 seconds.

Capturing fifth place in Wednesday’s preliminary meet were the Lady Cats 4-by-100-meter relay team of Cooper, Tearnee Harvin, Bouie and Burney. Their time was 50.16 seconds.

Raven Burney took sixth in the 400-meter run in a time of 1 minute, 2.86 seconds and Ashley Mango took seventh in the 400-meter run in a time of 1 minute, 3.84 seconds.
