Bearcats second in Westover Invitational

The defending region and state champion Bainbridge High School boys track team completed another outstanding regular season with a strong performance at Friday’s Westover High School Patriots Invitational Meet in Albany.

The homestanding Westover Patriots won the meet.

The Bearcats will be back at Albany’s Hugh Mills Memorial Stadium track this Thursday competing in the Region 1AAAA Preliminary Meet, the first step toward defending their Region 1AAAA championship.

The Region 1AAAA Finals Meet will be next Tuesday in Albany.

Among those leading the way at the Westover Meet were the Bearcats 4-by-400-meter relay team of Octavious Scott, Ryan Edwards, Alton Miller and Josh Ausgood who finished first in a time of 3 minutes, 25.42 seconds. Delonte Martistee, who won the high jump event, cleared the bar at a height of 6 feet. Martistee was also third in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 4 inches.

Second place finishers were Octavious Scott with a 15.34 second 110-meter hurdles time and a 39.34-second 300-meter hurdles time; and Joseph Ausgood with a 49.99-second 400-meter run time, and an 800-meter run time of 1 minute, 57.35 seconds.

Rohan Gaines had a second-place triple jump of 44 feet, 3 inches and a fourth-place long jump of 21 feet, 2 inches.

The Bearcats 4-by-200-meter relay team of Dontarious Jackson, Quincy Fortson, Brandon Handsford and Rohan Gaines captured second in a time of 1:32.94.

The 4-by-800-meter relay team of Hubert Thomas, Tadarius Gardner, Romeo Fields and Andrel Bowden took third place with a time of nine minutes, 13 seconds.

Jamar Venisee-Cosby was third in the high jump, clearing the bar at a height of 5 feet, 10 inches. Steve Crowell was third in the shot put with a heave of 48 feet, 2 inches. Shawn Samuels was fourth in the 200-meter run with a time of 22.66 seconds and fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.35 seconds.

Also capturing fifth places were Dewayne Gurley with a 144 foot, 3 inch discus throw and Ryan Edwards with a 51.20 second 400-meter run.

Dontarious Jackson took two sixth places with a 15.84 second 110-meter hurdles time and  a 41.04 second 300-meter hurdles time.
