Funeral services for Joe Wilkin, 82, of Colquitt, Ga., were held Friday, April 1, at Colquitt United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Thompson and Dr. Carl Marshall officiating and Mr. Joy Tully giving the eulogy.

Interment followed in the Colquitt City Cemetery with Scott Kelley, Zach Kelley, Michael Griffin, Mike Colgan, Jim Jernigan and Roger Cook serving as active pallbearers.

Born Jan. 24, 1929, in Bainbridge, Mr. Wilkin died on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Calhoun Memorial Hospital in Arlington, Ga.

Mr. Wilkin was owner of Wilkin’s IGA in Colquitt for 56 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a very active member of Colquitt United Methodist Church. He was past president of the Georgia Grocers Association, an active member of the Lion’s Club, and past member of the Selective Service Board. Mr. Wilkin also helped form the local chapter of the JayCee’s in Miller County.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Wilkin of Colquitt; three daughters, Holly Maxwell of Tallahassee, Fla., Marianne Wells and Jodie Jarvis, both of Colquitt; two sisters, Dorothy Repass of Athens, Ga., and Jane Anthony of Cumming, Ga.; a sister-in-law, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
