Funeral services for Aaron M. “Big Man” Smith, 72, of Bainbridge, were held Saturday, March 12, at Union Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. David Johnson officiating.

Interment was in Jonas Lobe Cemetery with family and friends acting as pallbearers.

Mr. Smith was born July 21, 1938, in Dawson, Terrell County, Ga., and died March 4, 2011, at Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge.

He was a member of Sandersgift Baptist Church in Terrell County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Janie Smith; his wife, Johnnie M. Smith; two brothers, Milton Smith and J.C. Smith; four sisters, Narciss Ross, Mamie Lee Bean, Charlie Mae Smith, Daisy Dean Smith and a companion, Anna Mae Hicks.

Survivors include his daughters, Mamie Smith of Dawson, Ga., and Cheryl Wilson of Atlanta; three brothers, David Smith of Jacksonville, Fla., Jimmy Lee Smith of Dunkirk, N.Y., and Isaac Smith of Bainbridge; two sisters, Johnnie Mae Stokes of Jacksonville and Missionary Martha Toomer of Sasser, Ga.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Bruton Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
