The Golden Triangle Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council’s Household Water Well Loan Program continues to draw applicants from Southwest Georgia.

The program provides low-interest loans to low-income homeowners allowing them to repair or replace a non-functioning well. To date, the program has funded the installation of nine wells.

In order to qualify for the loan program, the applicant must reside in the Council’s project area of Baker, Clay, Calhoun, Decatur, Dougherty, Early, Grady, Miller, Mitchell, Randolph, Seminole or Terrell counties and must own and reside in their home or trailer and land.

Applicants must obtain a minimum of two bids from licensed and bonded water well contractors and must have the well inspected by their local health department.

Loans will not pay to fund a well for new home construction, for use of a well as a substitute for a community water system, or for septic tank work or home plumbing systems.

If funded, the homeowner will make loan repayments at 1 percent interest for up to 10 years, with a $25 minimum monthly payment required. There is no fee for early repayment of the loan.
